Infant
This is an amazing time in your child's life. Every day brings a new gift - a smile, a new word, a new tooth. At Overhills CDC we attend to your infant's every need and we listen carefully to you - the parent - so that your needs are met as well. We maintain a stimulating environment in the infant room, but there's also quiet time and nap time. The schedule is determined by your child, not by us. Since an infant's day is "on-demand", there's no such thing as a typical day. Our curriculum addresses an infant's growth and development by creating strong bonds and learning through play. Some moms enroll their infants before they're born! With a waiting list for our 10 slots - it's not a bad idea to secure your infant's name on the waiting list (even if your infanthas yet to be named)!
Wobbler/Toddler
Suddenly, everything about your child’s life is changing. By acquiring mobility, your little one experiences the world in a whole new way, making movement and related milestones an important component of their learning. The wobbler/toddlers varied curriculum promises to stimulate and nurture very young minds and bodies. Although we always attend to every child's individual needs, this is the age where your child begins to engage in group experiences as an important element of their development and learning.
Our Early Preschool curriculum incorporates the first steps necessary to prepare children for preschool, kindergarten and beyond! This program begins moving from child care toward a more structured educational format in preparation for preschool learnig. Our developmental program includes enrichment programs for musical beginnings, developmental milestones, and reading readiness.Educators intentionally teach through small group interactions.Two-year-olds participate in hands-on activities while learning how to solve problems by creating solutions - all by themselves! Working independently, participating in teacher-directed activities, and as part of a small peer group builds their confidence and self-esteem while fostering their ability to communicate their own likes and dislikes.
Our preschool program provides children with an array of individual, small and large group activities. Each week children will explore a theme through learning circles, teacher-directed activities, discovery, creative art, music, literacy circles, games and so much more. Each child develops at their own pace and we encourage communication between staff members and parents on the progress of their child. Daily reports or weekly newsletters from the classroom teachers update parents on activities, and future class projects.
At the pre-kindergarten age, children are beginning to prepare for school. As professionals, our teachers provide a more structured learning environment, so each child will have a strong foundation for their elementary years. Several modified curriculums are used to accomplish the objectives of our developmental links. The learning process is linked with the child’s physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs. Our program recognizes this linkage by providing a balance of child-initiated and teacher-guided activities, as they play.
Our School Age Program has several activity zones which cover all basic and extended forms of learning through play. Our children come from Harnett and Cumberland County elementary and middle schools. We provide before-school and after-school services. Full day services are offered when school is out for teacher workdays, non-holidays, and during the summer.
School Age
The junior kindergarten program is an expressed, accelerated program designed to give our children a kick-start. Our curriculum puts major emphasis on the 3 E's: Exposure, Enrichment, and Exploration, and is designed based on obtaining a sequence of skills. The program will assist the children in achieving the first two semesters of the NC public kindergarten's goals and objectives. Strong emphasis is placed on literacy, writing, spelling, and math. Students practice penmanship and have many opportunities to enjoy several types of literature. They are also exposed to advanced concepts in science and social awareness which are integrated throughout the curriculum. We hold fast to the key characteristics of what makes a quality junior- kindergarten program.
